Green Tip - Cap It!

What do you do with your bottle caps? Toss them in the garbage? Put them in recycling?

Did you know that while on their own bottle caps can clog recycling sorters but with improvements in processing equipment, they are more easily processed when they are attached to their bottle!

Research by the North Sea Foundation found that bottle caps are among the top 5 items found during beach cleaning around the world! Over the last 30 years, more than 20 million bottle caps and lids were found on beaches world-wide during cleaning activities! Plastic bottle caps are among the top 5 ocean trash items that are deadly to sea life.

So next time you finish your soda - empty the contents, rinse it, and cap it!

This also can be done with shampoo and conditioner bottles, laundry detergents, ketchup, yogurt and other food containers and plastic bottles and containers you use regularly at home.

Remember- clean, empty containers go in the single-stream blue "recycle" bins at MCC.
