Women's soccer heads to districts

After securing its ninth straight Region III title and 20th overall, the MCC women's soccer team now turns its attention to the District G tournament this weekend.

The Tribunes (12-2) will take on County College of Morris in the semifinals at 12 p.m. Friday.  The games will be played at the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI).

The championship game is 12 p.m. Sunday, with the MCC/Morris winner taking on CCRI for a right to advance to the NJCAA Division I national tournament in Albany, GA, Nov. 15-18.

MCC has not played Morris this year.  The Tribunes beat CCRI 6-0 on Sept. 22.

MCC is looking for redemption this season after finishing third at nationals a year ago.  A shoot-out loss to Iowa Western in the semifinals snapped Monroe's two-year reign as national champs, and the Tribunes will be looking to return to the title game and compete for their ninth national championship.

But first MCC will have to get through a tough weekend in New England.  Morris enters with a record of 13-5-1, while CCRI is 15-1 with its only loss coming to Monroe.  The Knights have shut out their last 11 opponents and have allowed just eight goals all season.

Be sure to check the MCC Athletics website this weekend for scores and highlights from district action.
