President's Wednesday Message

As the college grows quieter each hour with the approach of the holiday break, I wanted -- again -- to wish you the very best of the season and a happy new year!

And, while January seems far away, it really isn’t. Soon, students will return either for intersession or to assure their place in spring classes, and in a flash, we’ll be back in the thick of it. So, before you lose control of your 2011 calendar, I hope that you will make time to attend one or more of these special events that will help us kick off the year:

January 5

Safe Zone Training, 1:30 pm in the Flynn Campus Center Forum (3-130). Safe Zone training seeks to promote an inclusive and supportive environment for our LGBT colleagues and students.

January 14-20

ETS Technology Week: Get the complete schedule of events and register at https://www.monroecc.edu/go/techweek.

January 19

Mirroring the Faces of our Students: A Collegial Conversation on Diversity and Inclusiveness at MCC, 10:00 am to noon in the Warshof Conference Center, Flynn Campus Center (Monroe A).

January 24

Opening of the Freedom Place Collection at the Mercer Gallery. The collection highlights significant works by African-American artists.

January 26

Rochester Regional Design Center’s Reshaping Rochester Series featuring Christopher Leinberger on “The New American Dream,” 7:00 pm, Theatre. For more info, including ticket information, see https://www.rrcdc.org/reshapingrochester.html#leinberger.

January 29

Basketball Doubleheader: men’s and women’s teams take on Jamestown CC rivals; women's game begins at 2:00 pm, men's game begins at 4:00 pm. (If you’re in the mood for more ice, attend a Hockey game on the 19th, or if you’re feeling tropical, try a Swimming meet on the 15th.)

As this short list suggests, MCC has resolved that 2011 will be an exciting, energizing, and engaging year! Do you have any resolutions to share?  If so, post them to the
President's Wednesday Message blog.
