Congratulate Fred McCullough, Recipient of the 2010 MCC Award for Excellence in Professional Service

The Professional Development Committee of the Faculty Senate is proud to announce that the recipient of the 2010 MCC Award for Excellence in Professional Service is Fred McCullough of the Building Services Department.

Fred McCullough joined MCC in 1999 after a distinguished career with Eastman Kodak Company and A&R Temco. He is also an alumnus of MCC.

Fred has brought dedication, energy, and innovativeness to his position as Director of Building Services. Not only is he in charge of maintaining all of MCC’s housekeeping functions at two campuses including the residence halls, but supporting campus events as well. He is an analytical and critical thinker who, despite impressive levels of technical knowledge, constantly works to enhance his knowledge base. He has completed the Association of Physical Plant administrator's Institute for Facility Management, an intensive multi-year program designed to help managers of successful facility operations.

Fred’s efforts are crucial to the well being of the entire MCC Community. To quote Patrick Bates, MCC’s Director of Purchasing, “Fred’s leadership style has allowed the building Services staff to flourish in their roles. A walk around any building will reflect clean and well cared for facilities.” The work done by Fred and his department reflect the public face of our beloved institution.

‘Further, Fred has gone beyond his job description in his efforts to institute “Green” activities throughout the college. Not only has he implemented an effective recycling program at MCC, but written and published a “Green Manual” detailing the College’s specific recycling activities. A letter from David C. Scalen, the Vice President of Regional Distributors, Inc, a supplier of Janitorial Supplies, writes that “he (Fred) is constantly searching for new methodology related to improving environmental conditions on campus. Where applicable Fred has promoted Green Seal Certification of products used by the college”. This last is only one example of Fred’s commitment to continuous improvement. He is constantly finding new and innovative ways to “do things better” for the betterment of MCC.

Fred’s heart is very close to the students. He staffs a table on Sustainability at orientation and sustainability activities, conducts student tours of the Monroe County Recycling Facility, presents at Hospitality Department classes and student club activities, and provides input to student reporters for articles in the Monroe Doctrine. You can walk by his office, and see him talking one-on-one with individual students to help them with sustainability term papers or service learning projects. He is never too busy to help anyone, or to share in school activities.

Please join the Faculty Senate in honoring this wonderful leader and team player!
