Women's lacrosse coming to MCC

Monroe Community College has announced the formation of a women’s lacrosse team, slated to begin play in the spring of 2007.

The team will be coached by Craig Chamberlain, also the head coach of the MCC ice hockey team.

“I’m honored to be appointed to start the women’s lacrosse program at MCC,” said Chamberlain.  “My goals are to have the team bond and make an appearance at, if not win, a regional tournament. We want to lay a solid foundation for a potential national championship team down the road.”

Chamberlain has been coaching women’s lacrosse for 10 years at the high school level and has enjoyed much success as the head coach at Rush-Henrietta High School.  His team will share John L. DiMarco Field with the MCC men’s lacrosse team starting next spring.

The women’s lacrosse team will join a prestigious athletic department renowned for its success. MCC has won three national championships during the 2005-2006 school year – women’s soccer, women’s basketball, and softball – and the golf team is vying for another.
