Counseling Center Resources for Students

MCC’s Counseling Center staff remain dedicated and committed to the emotional well-being our of our students. Counseling staff are available to meet with students and ask that students can contact our office at 585-292-2140, email us at counselingservices@monroecc.edu to schedule an appointment.

We recognize this can be a stressful time of the year for our students. We want to remind the college community of general healthy habits to manage stress, along with coping strategies as this may be helpful information to share with your students.

The first step in coping with stress is recognizing some of the signs we may experience when we feel stressed. Signs and symptoms of stress can include:

  • Fatigue,
  • Pain or tension in our neck or shoulders,
  • Low or lack of motivation,
  • Changing in our eating habits,
  • Recurrent headaches,
  • Sleep disturbances,
  • Inability to concentrate, and/or
  • Isolation

Healthy ways of coping with stress may include:

  • Exercising,
  • Connecting with a family or friend for support,
  • Listening to music,
  • Writing in a journal, etc.

Additional healthy ways to cope with stress can be found on the Center for Disease Control and Prevention website.

Faculty and staff are also welcome to refer students to the virtual Stress Relief Friday drop-in session hosted by the Counseling Center staff on Friday, November 19th from 12:00pm-1:00pm via Zoom. The Stress Relief Friday session is designed to be a fun and lighthearted opportunity for students to meet each other, to engage in simple and positive activities, and to learn about various stress relief strategies. While this drop-in is not designed to serve as therapy or processing groups, group norms will be discussed to ensure that all information that is shared is kept confidential. All students are welcomed to join for all or just a portion of the hour-long session.

In addition, all are welcome to refer to the Counseling Center website for additional resources and support.

We hope you are all safe and well.
