SUNY Task Group Looking for Examples of Innovation in Assessment, Feedback, and Grading

The SUNY Faculty Advisory Council on Teaching and Technology (FACT2) has many task groups running, one of which is the task group for Innovations in In-Course Assessment, Feedback and Grading.

They are looking for faculty who are using innovative assessment techniques to determine student learning at the course level. The plan is to share these examples across SUNY so that other faculty can be inspired to try new techniques in their courses.

Some examples include (but are not limited to):

  • Contract based grading where students are able to set at the beginning of the semester what they plan to do to complete the course.
  • Equity grading - where assessment questions are written with equity and diversity in mind
  • Multiple pathways - where students can choose between different assessment options to complete the course
  • Learning recognition – such as prior learning assessment, competency-based assessments and other forms of directly assessing learning acquired outside of the institution.
  • Specific rubrics that align with case study assignments

Do you have something to share? Please complete this form

Questions? Please contact Chris Price, from the SUNY Center for Professional Development.

MCC's two FACT2 representatives are Katie Ghidiu (Library) and Kathleen Borbee (Business).
