Tech Tip: Don't get 'locked out'!

One of the worst ways to start a day is not being able to log in. You type in your password--you get an error. You try again – typing slowly and very carefully. It still isn’t right.  Try too many times and your account will be locked for 15 minutes as a security precaution against ‘bots’. It’s possible that your password has simply expired.  That happens every 180 days according to the College’s Password Policy

An easy way to be sure that you change that password before it expires, is to put a reminder on your calendar. With our new account management tool, you can look up when your password expires to the hour!

Go to myaccount.monroecc.edu and click on the SIGN IN button at the bottom of the screen.

After you sign in with your current password, you will see an overview of your account, including your employee ID (M number), how long before your password expires in days left, and also the exact date and time when your existing password expires.

You can add a quick reminder to your calendar to be sure to change it before it expires! Are you planning on being away on that date? Is it the day before you are giving a presentation?

No worries--there is an option right there to "Change Password." For accounts under standard rules your password will be good for 180 days. For those with past due cybersecurity awareness training your password will only be good for 7 days.

While you are there, check out the Account Recovery option in the left-hand navigation. You want to be sure that the recovery email address and recovery cell phone are up to date in case you forget your password in the future.
