TCC: Spring 2021 Programming - Something for Everyone

Welcome to a new semester of Committing to Equity-Minded Pedagogy, the theme for most of the Teaching and Creativity Center's programming this year. With this focus, we invite faculty and staff to engage in professional learning that is not only individual-focused (e.g. How do I do X?), but directs a deeper lens onto some of the structural problems that persist in our institutions, our fields, our professions, despite anyone's individual best efforts--those that may, in fact, even undermine our best efforts and intentions.

Central to Committing to Equity-Minded Pedagogy is a comprehensive grasp of what equity is, and what it is not. But to be "equity minded" doesn't just mean knowing what those words mean. It means looking bravely at outcomes, at policies, at curriculum, at everything, with these questions in mind: What purpose do they serve? Who is served, and who is not? Who benefits, and who is harmed? Who counts as "successful" and who does not? Whose comforts and privileges are tended to, and whose are ignored? Those are not the only questions to ask, but they are good ones to start with.

The TCC cannot do this work for you, but we can provide occasion and structure for undertaking it this semester and beyond. There are three main "tracks" on which you can engage:

  1. Inquiry Projects (which would be presented at the June 2021 Teaching and Learning Conference)
  2. Equity Literacy Institute courses
  3. Regular TCC programming

I'll have more to say about 1 and 2 in upcoming Trib announcements.
