President's Wednesday Message

I had occasion to come to the Brighton Campus several times last weekend for College events. My drive in on weekends is different—not as hurried, not as single-focused. The route I take from building to building changes, too; I become more of a wanderer. So, things I wouldn’t usually see suddenly pop into view.

This is how I saw the delicately flowering trees lining the entrance off of Brighton Henrietta Town Line Road; and was struck by the Technicolor tulips off of East Henrietta; and was drawn to the quads filled with gently swaying pastel branches set against a background of lime green budding trees. This is how I saw the waves of sunlight created by high spring clouds sweep fluidly across the soft green grass.

Our Brighton Campus shimmers in the early morning sun, comes alive throughout the day, and glows at sunset. The learning environment is as supportive outside as it is inside (as the students sprawled out on the quad outside my window right now would testify).

Every campus has its own personality. DCC is always a hive of excitement and energy, bursting out the minute I hit the fourth floor; the Applied Technologies Center seems like an industrious home, warm and welcoming; the Public Safety Training Facility stands secure and reassuringly solid, befitting its purpose. Much of the Brighton Campus is hidden behind its brick and concrete walls, making the impression left by our beautiful landscape all the more important because it signals the inspiring experience that awaits.

This weekend, I made a note to myself to thank our remarkable grounds crew, who work every day of the year to make sure we look our best from spring through winter and back again.

Thank you!

As we near the end of this academic year, who at MCC would you thank? Share your thoughts on the blog.
