Shea Named Special Assistant to the President

It is with great pleasure that I welcome a familiar face – Raymond C. Shea – to the President’s Division. Ray officially began his new duties as Special Assistant to the President on the first day of classes, Sept. 4.

Ray brings with him a rich and diverse background in business and education. During his career, he has served as a government administrator, business owner, high school coach, consultant, civic leader and novelist.

He has been with MCC since 1988, when he joined the faculty in business and economics. During his tenure, Ray has served the College in a variety of leadership roles including president of the Faculty Senate, co-chair of the College-wide Assessment Committee, a member of the Strategic Planning Committee and member of the Middle States Committee. Additionally, he has authored text books and is a frequent presenter at state and national conferences.

In his new role, Ray will provide leadership and assistance in the implementation of major strategic and divisional initiatives and programs. He will be involved in a myriad of projects within a breadth of departments and programs including grants, capital budget development, legal labor relations, the Agriculture and Life Sciences Institute, Homeland Security Management Institute and Planning. He also will provide support on new construction and renovation projects.

Ray earned his master of public administration degree from SUNY Albany and his bachelor of arts in economics and political science from St. John Fisher College.
