MCC Alert and Prepaid Cellular Telephones

I've received a number of inquiries from the College Community asking if MCC Alert will function properly when used in conjunction with prepaid cellular telephones from companies such as Tracfone, Boost Mobile, Cricket Wireless, and Consumer Cellular. I'm happy to announce yes, you can receive phone calls, text, and e-mail from MCC Alert on your prepaid cellular telephone.

When signing up for MCC Alert, you will need to input your cellular telephone number, e-mail addresses, and the carrier for your cellular telephone service. The carrier information is different from the company you purchased your prepaid cellular telephone package from and it is in the selection of the appropriate carrier where most prepaid cellular telephone users experience difficulty in receiving MCC Alerts.

The cellular telephone service provider, commonly referred to as the carrier, can be identified in two ways. First, you can contact the customer service department of the cellular telephone company which sold you your phone and request the name of the carrier. Secondly, the cellular telephone carrier information is often located on the SIM card, which is located in the back of your cellular telephone and can be accessed by removing the back cover of your phone and removing the SIM card from its retention slot in the body of the phone.

In addition, regardless of whether you own a prepaid cellular telephone or a traditional service contract cellular telephone, at any time you change or upgrade your cellular telephone, change your service provider, or change your cellular telephone number, you must update that information in MCC Alert in order to receive ALERTS in the form of phone calls and text messages to your cellular telephone.

If you have any questions regarding how to sign up for MCC Alert or how to program your cellular telephone to receive MCC Alerts, please contact MCC Public Safety Emergency Manager Chuck DiSalvo at x2926 or via e-mail at cdisalvo@monroecc.edu
