College Update on COVID-19 Testing Efforts & Cases

Yesterday, Monroe County announced 588 new COVID-19 cases. The seven-day rolling average positivity rate is 8.8%. MCC’s Applied Technologies Center, Brighton Campus and Public Safety Training Facility are in yellow precautionary zones; the Downtown Campus is in an orange warning zone. Our Virtual Campus is in the black and gold safe zone.

With hospitalizations and hospital capacity rates now part of New York state micro-cluster zone metrics, please note that the Finger Lakes region’s 7-day rolling average of available hospital beds is 29%. The 7-day rolling average of ICU beds available is 31%. The Finger Lakes region includes Monroe, Genesee, Livingston, Ontario, Orleans, Seneca, Wayne, Wyoming, and Yates counties.

To date, MCC has completed 4,936 COVID-19 pooled tests, resulting in a 0.45% positivity rate for the fall semester. MCC will host its next pooled testing session 9:00-11:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 4, 2021 in the Warshof Conference Center, Flynn Campus Center (Monroe A/B). This session is for faculty, staff and students who will be coming to campus in January. No appointment necessary. Since our last report on December 14, the Monroe County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) has notified the College of 8 positive case of COVID-19 among students and employees. Of those cases, 0 individuals were on campus. According to MCC Health Services:

  • 0 students are isolating on campus
  • 18 students are isolating off campus
  • 12 students are in mandatory quarantine (on and off campus)

MCC adheres to federal, state and county guidelines and requires mask wearing, social distancing, hand washing, respiratory etiquette and daily health self-assessments on campus.
