MCC Golfers Win National Title

The Monroe Community College golf team completed a perfect season Friday, firing a final round 298 to capture the 2009 NJCAA Division III national championship at Chautauqua Golf Club.
MCC finished with a total team score of 1,173. Rochester Community and Technical College and Burlington County College were next with 1,203, with RCTC winning the tiebreaker to finish second.
Chris Malec earned medalist honors for the tournament and finished as the individual national champion for Monroe. The freshman shot a final-round 72 and finished 7-under for the tournament.
The wire-to-wire victory was a fitting way to end the season for MCC, as the Tribunes were victorious in every meet they entered this year.
Tyler Phillips carded a 74 on Friday, while Taylor Page was right behind with a 75. Jordan Wilson had a 77 and Ben Finn shot an 81.
It was the second national title for the Tribunes, who won the 2006 championship with a total score of 1,168.
