Members of the TCC present at the Professional and Organizational Development Network Conference in Montreal

Renee Dimino (ESOL/TRS) and Gena Merliss (TCC Coordinator) led a morning pre-conference workshop about Reflective Practice Groups. Although this model for sustaining reflective practice is widely used around the country, it is rare at the college level. In the workshop, participants established agreements to build a safe environment and gave and received feedback on professional dilemmas using the SRI protocols that we use with RPGs on campus. Join me on congratulating them on being selected to present as only 37% of pre-conference submissions were approved at the conference!

Gena Merliss also co-presented with former MCC Teaching and Creativity leaders, Neeta Primo and Jon Iuzzini, about innovative approaches to community college educational development. Community Colleges make up only a small fraction of the general POD Network population, so it was impressive that there was a full room of participants in the late afternoon on the last day! MCC's portion of this presentation included the redesigned First and Second Year Faculty Series, which now focuses on strengthening instructional practice, developing reflective habits and exploring and developing college citizenship.

Two of our three TCC faculty chairs, Amy Burtner and Eileen Radigan, attended the conference as well to learn more about faculty development around the country and internationally.
