The MCC men's basketball team defeated Gloucester County College (GCC) 73-65 to capture the 14th Pete Pavia Memorial Scholarship basketball tournament on Monagan Court Saturday afternoon.
Tournament MVP Vince Mosley (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./Dillard) paced the Tribunes with 18 points and also added 10 rebounds and four assists. Joe Lindsey (Spring Valley, NY/Spring Valley) added 15 points and six assists.
The GCC Roadrunners took momentum into the locker room, hitting 12-of-14 free throws in the first half to lead 38-34 at the break. Antraye Miles led Gloucester with 12 points in the opening 20 minutes.
MCC came out energized to start the second half. The Tribunes went on a 20-7 run to start the half, fueled by nine points from Oliver Prince (Toronto, Ont./Jean Vanier). The Roadrunners cut the lead to six with just over a minute remaining but could come no closer.
Prince finished with 14 points and five rebounds and was named to the All-Tournament team. Lindsey was given the sportsmanship award. Danny Owusu (Queens, NY/Westbury) also hit double figures, hitting three 3-pointers and finishing with 14.
MCC is 4-0 on the year.
