Michael Bates Appointed Director, Purchasing

It gives me great pleasure to share that Michael Bates, has been appointed Director of Purchasing starting May 16, pending approval by the Board of Trustees at the next meeting on June 6.  Mike is reporting to the Controller, Mike Quinn, in the Administrative Services Division.  He began his professional career in 2008 as an MCC Admissions Counselor serving students until 2011, when he became Coordinator of Veteran Services.  Mike was promoted to Coordinator in 2018 for Financial Aid and then Assistant Director of Financial Aid in 2020.  He also served as a VA school certifying official from 2011-2018.  Mike served on the Faculty Council from 2015 -2021 as a professional staff director and labor management representative and member/chair of SCAA from 2013-2015.

He was the recipient of the 2013-2014 League for Innovation John & Suanne Rouche Excellence Award and three League for Innovation in the Community College Awards - 2012-13 for Enough is Enough Campaign, 2013-2014 for STARS (Supporting Transitioning and Returning Service Members) program, and 2014-2015 for Veterans Early Alert Retention and Completion System.  

Mike’s experience working with regulations, knowledge of the institution, and supervisory skills together with his demonstrated customer service skills will greatly benefit the Purchasing Department and all of the college community.  Please join me in welcoming Mike to the Administrative Services division in this high service leadership role.
