Faculty Present at STEMtech Conference

Three MCC faculty members made presentations at the STEMtech 2011 conference held October 2-5 in Indianapolis. James Cronmiller, Instructor in Biology, presented a poster on the “Electronic Cardiovascular System Model: Merging Biology, Art, and Engineering”. Dan Robertson, Chair of Chemistry/Geoscience and Mike Doolin, Professor of English and Philosophy, conducted a roundtable discussion on “Incorporating Writing Into Non-Majors Science Classes”.

The STEMtech conference is sponsored by the League for Innovation in Community Colleges. Educators from middle schools, high schools, community colleges and universities came together with industry leaders and other experts in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) to discuss increasing student access into and success in STEM majors and careers. Conference tracks included Health and Science; Energy, Environment and Sustainability; Mathematics, Engineering and Architecture; Manufacturing, Industry, Agriculture and Aerospace; Technology, Multimedia and Telecommunication; Recruiting, Retaining and Transitioning Students into STEM Programs; Technology Systems and Applications and E-Learning Resources. Speakers repeatedly highlighted the critical need in the U.S. for engineers, engineering technicians, scientists and mathematicians – people who can innovate, invent and solve problems!
