AAWCC/NILD Adopt Katrina Evacuees – October 10-14 Collection

In its continuing relationship with Wilson Commencement Park, the MCC chapters of the American Association for Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC) and of the National Institute for Leadership Development (NILD) have ‘adopted’ three families who evacuated the New Orleans area following Katrina’s devastation. The three families include (1) a 21-year-old woman with a 2-year-old son, (2) a 22-year-old woman with a 1-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son, and (3) a 29-year-old woman with 2 daughters aged 2 and 3 and a 9-year-old son.

All three families have lost everything and are in the process of starting over here in Rochester. They need monetary help with rent, utilities and child care as well as Wal-Mart gift cards to purchase job interview clothes. The moms need winter coats and boots, hair products for African-Americans, feminine products and household cleaning products (Clorox, mop, broom, laundry detergent). In addition, two of the families have specified that they need:

Family #2 – size 2T girl’s clothes, size 14+ women’s clothes.
Family #3 – size 3T and 5T girl’s clothes, size 10-12 boys clothes, size 14+ women’s clothes, 2 little tricycles for the girls and a vacuum.

The MCC community is asked to bring donations during the week of October 10-14 to the following sites:

Brighton - Patty Ornt and Jennifer Kinslow in the Counseling and Advising Office.
DCC - Pam Weidel in the Student Services Center (they can be dropped off at the Communications Center front desk on the 5th floor).
ATC - Kristy Mooney Graves (they can be dropped off at the ATC front desk with either Kristy or Elaine).
PSTF – Theresa Schichler in Homeland Security Management Institute (they can be dropped off in room #220).

Thank you in advance for your generosity.
