THE MCC Diversity Council Gets a New Name

THE MCC Diversity Council Gets a New Name

MCC is an academic community made up of individuals who reflect differences in sex, gender, nationality, culture, ethnicity, religion, color, race, skill, physical ability, country of origin, veteran status, migration status, and sexual orientation. For more than 50 years, the College has evolved to meet the ever-changing needs of our students and our community. We are proud of our efforts thus far and are deeply committed to continuing to grow as a community that becomes more inclusive moving forward.

In our efforts to ensure that the college goes beyond diversity, which is defined as the activity of identifying the similarities and differences outlined above, a concerted effort must be made to ensure that we, as a community, are striving for inclusion, which requires action in order to not only embrace our differences, but to also ensure that individual members of our community feel welcomed, respected, supported and valued.

An outward sign of our movement in this direction is the changing of the name of the Diversity Council to highlight these distinctions and move toward embracing language that is consistent with national dialogue around issues of diversity. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are key components of the college's mission, vision, and core values, and we would like the name of the Council to be harmonious with these important elements. Furthermore, diversity, equity and inclusion are essential to MCC's goals for its organizational culture, as indicated in the 2017-2021 Strategic Plan and the 2017-2021 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Plan. We are happy to announce that, with President Kress's approval, MCC Diversity Council has been renamed the MCC Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council.
