Take Part in Writing in the Disciplines Curriculum Design Workshops

The Writing Across the Curriculum committee is still welcoming participants for a 2018-19 curriculum design workshop series. Don't miss out!

As explained in a previous Trib announcement, this series will offer campus workshops led by discipline-specific experts that are designed to help faculty across multiple disciplines achieve their writing-related course goals. The goal will be for participants to infuse writing into their Spring 2019 classrooms and then assess student gains using faculty-created course-specific rubrics.

Thanks to a SUNY Innovation Instruction Technology Grant, faculty at Monroe Community College, Rockland Community College, and Clinton Community College are partnering with the Excelsior Online Writing Lab (OWL) to offer the design workshops to anyone interested in Writing in the Disciplines.

Interested faculty will attend a series of curriculum design webinars in Fall 2018 and just-in-time webinars in Spring 2019 (dates of webinars to be determined). Topics addressed will include writing assignment development, scaffolding, assessment, and feedback. Participants will be provided with practical information on effective WID course design, samples of exemplary discipline-specific writing assignments, tips for managing grading (e.g., good rubric design), and models of substantive and meaningful feedback.

If you want to participate in the training and follow-up assessment, please respond to Amy Burtner <aburtner@monroecc.edu> by Sept. 24.
