Men and Women's Basketball Win Pete Pavia Tournament


Both the men and women's basketball teams won the Pete Pavia Tournament this past weekend. In the first game the men defeated Sullivan County Community College 78-68. On Sunday, MCC played Mott Community College and won 69-55. The following Tribunes earned tournament awards; Lataiva Escho was named the Tournament MVP, Phil Valenti earned the Tournament Sportsmanship Award, Andre Vanterpool earned Best Defensive Player, and Mindaugas Boruta earned Best Rebounder. Both of the teams the Tribunes beat were nationally ranked in their divisions. Sullivian County Community College is ranked 1st in Division III and Mott is ranked 2nd in division II. MCC is 3-0.

The Lady Tribunes won their first game against Mitchell College 78-73. In the finals they faced Owens Community College and won 81-58. Sophomore All-American, Janitha Knight was named Tournament MVP for the second year in a row. Sharon Billups and Nastassia Boucicault were named to the All Tournament Team. MCC is currently 4-1 and ranked 2nd in the nation for Division III women's basketball.
