Help Support our Troops!

Monroe Community College’s Travel Club and Phi Theta Kappa are asking you to join in our cause.  We are teaming up with Francine Calvaruso to help our troops in Iraq by sending supplies.

For the last several months, Francine has been sending cookies and letters to troops in Iraq.  One group is at Balad Air Force Base.  Located 68 kilometers from Baghdad, Balad is one of the largest airbases in Iraq and is the most active aerial port of operations in Iraq.  In addition to combat capabilities, Balad is equipped with a field hospital, which is where most of her packages have been going.  Lately, injured soldiers at Balad have had a shortage of supplies that most at home would consider basic, including pillowcases and toothbrushes.  Because of this she has decided to start to raise money to buy supplies for wounded soldiers at Balad.

The Travel Club and Phi Theta Kappa are asking members of Monroe Community College and the community to join our cause of supplying the troops with essential items.  Here is a list of supplies we are asking for:

Toothpaste/toothbrushes
New socks both ankle and regular (white)
T-shirts only (tan, brown or black)
New or used DVD’s or CD’s
Headphones
Pillow cases (medical size)
Slippers (with Velcro, non-straps)
Deodorant
Wash cloths/towels
Shampoos/conditioners
Liquid shower soap

Bins will be set up to collect your drop offs in three locations:

Outside Reflections Restaurant
Outside Hospitality Department Offices 3-155
Outside the Phi Theta Kappa Office

We will be taking donations from now until November 9th, 2007.  For more information or to make a cash donation please contact Janet Zinck at 292-2187 or in the Career Center, or Diane Cheasty in Reflections.
