Register Now for a SUNY Guided Pathways Teaching & Learning Academy (May 21)

From the SUNY Guided Pathways Teaching & Learning Advisory Board (on which Renee Coleman [Psychology], Jason Szymanski [Chemistry & Geosciences], and Amy Burtner [English & Philosophy] sit):

The SUNY Guided Pathways Project, in partnership with the NYS Student Success Center, will be hosting a virtual “Light the Fire for Learning” Guided Pathways Teaching & Learning Academy on Friday, May 21, from 11 AM to 3 PM (with a break for lunch) for faculty from the ten SUNY Guided Pathways Institute alumni colleges. As a follow-up from the faculty survey conducted in February, the purpose of the workshop will bring together faculty to discuss the faculty role in pathways and share ideas to further “light the fire” for learning within students.

This will be a three session workshop:

  • Session 1: An interactive “What is Guided Pathways?” overview and panel discussion with specific attention to the equity imperative grounding pathways work;
  • Session 2: Concurrent roundtable discussions led by faculty engaged in scaling high impact practices in teaching & learning;
  • Session 3: Interactive discussion on the roles faculty play in promoting students’ sense of purpose and belonging.

Call for Roundtable Leads: There is an opportunity for you to consider applying to be a “roundtable lead” for a 45 minute breakout that would include either a few “TedTalk” type presentations or roundtable peer discussion. The topic ideas include: “high impact practices” to promote student learning; promising practices for inspiring students’ sense of purpose and passion during their first class, semester and year; using culturally competent pedagogy to improve equitable outcomes; cultivating growth-mindedness; strategies for promoting active and experiential learning that can be scaled; and helpful syllabus creation tips that ensure students' sense of overall academic purpose and momentum is strengthened in each class. You can sign up using the registration link below and we will notify selected roundtable leads by April 30 and will provide a small honorarium for each lead selected.

TO REGISTER to attend on May 21 (and indicate if you are interested in hosting a roundtable), please complete the registration form: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TL052121

Once you register, we will send the agenda and Zoom link out to you in early May.
