College Update on COVID-19 Testing Efforts & Cases

Today, the first mandatory pooled (saliva) testing sessions of the spring semester will be held 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. and 3:30-5:30 p.m. in the Warshof Conference Center, Flynn Campus Center (Monroe A/B) on the Brighton Campus. Weekly testing is mandatory for students and employees who plan to come to the Applied Technologies Center, Brighton Campus, and Downtown Campus during the spring semester for any reason. No appointment necessary. Testing will also be offered 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. tomorrow, Jan. 26.

  • Please complete your COVID-19 self-assessment prior to coming to campus.
  • If you are participating in pooled testing for the first time, please register on the SUNY Upstate Medical University website and follow these simple preparation steps (e.g., don’t brush your teeth or use mouthwash within 3 hours of taking your test).
  • Starting next week, pooled testing sessions will be held 2:30 – 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Wednesdays each week until further notice.

Since our last report on Jan. 19, the Monroe County Department of Public Health has notified the College of 20 positive cases of COVID-19 among students and employees. According to MCC Health Services:

  • 0 students are isolating on campus
  • 23 students are isolating off campus
  • 12 students are in mandatory quarantine off campus

Since September 2020 to date, MCC completed 5,524 COVID-19 pooled tests; 22 total cases were identified among students and employees through pooled testing, resulting in a 0.40% positivity rate.

MCC’s Applied Technologies Center, Brighton Campus and Public Safety Training Facility remain in yellow precautionary zones; the Downtown Campus is in an orange warning zone.

MCC adheres to federal, state and county guidelines and requires mask wearing, social distancing, hand washing, respiratory etiquette and daily health self-assessments on campus. Visit the MCC Updates & Resources web pages for the latest updates.

Monroe County and Finger Lakes Regional Update

  • On Saturday, Jan. 24, Monroe County announced 283 new COVID-19 cases. The seven-day rolling average positivity rate is 5.3%.
  • The Finger Lakes region’s 7-day rolling average of available hospital beds is 33%. The 7-day rolling average of ICU beds available is 22%. The Finger Lakes region includes Monroe, Genesee, Livingston, Ontario, Orleans, Seneca, Wayne, Wyoming, and Yates counties.
