MCC Daily Tribune

Heartfelt thanks to Amy Burtner for a stellar job as Acting Coordinator of the Teaching and Creativity Center!

Please join me in saying thank you to Amy Burtner (ENG/PHL) for doing a spectacular job as the Acting Coordinator for the Teaching and Creativity Center for 2020-21!

What a year it has been! Let's recap just a few of the reasons to be grateful for Amy's work:

  • The TCC's programs were all remote, which required coordination, ingenuity, and communication
  • Faculty's needs for professional development increased and changed during the pandemic, as their bandwidth decreased
  • The TCC now has a robust Blackboard organization page where you can find recordings and materials from prior programs
  • The First and Second Year Faculty Series also have effective Blackboard sites, modeling the productive use of Blackboard in remote and face-to-face teaching
  • Large numbers of MCC faculty participated in last year's TCC programs, with a record-setting Winter Teaching Institute
  • Because the TCC didn't offer food at events last year, there were a number of off-campus remote and asynchronous learning opportunities open to faculty including the Equity Literacy Institute's modules and the regional "Connecting, Collaborating, and Celebrating the Art of Teaching" conference last April
  • The TCC rooms now have improved video technology so that we can maintain our accessibility post-pandemic

As always, it's important to remember that the TCC is a faculty-driven organization that could not function without the exceptional support of the multi-campus TCC committees, Nancy Soregi, our intrepid secretary, and many others who facilate sessions, book groups, Reflective Practice Groups and much more. To learn more about the TCC's accomplishments last year, see the attached at-a-glance version of last year's annual report.

On a personal note, I am grateful to Amy for her willingness to step into the Coordinator role this past year so that I could pursue a Professional Leave for the Benefit of the College. It was a fantastic experience, and I look forward to sharing what I accomplished while I was gone.
