MCC Nurses Join in "Lifting Sprits, Touching Lives"

The MCC Department of Nursing and its students will celebrate National Nurses Week, May 6 - 12, 2003. "Nurses: Lifting Spirits, Touching Lives" is the national theme for year's celebration. This week honors the 2.7 million registered nurses who save lives and maintain the health of millions of people every day.

The MCC Nursing faculty has developed appreciation cards for nurses and agency staff who provide MCC students with valuable clinical experience. The cards will be distributed throughout the week and posters will be displayed in Building 8. A video presentation has also been prepared for the celebration and will be played in the Building 8 lobby on May 6 and 7. MCC faculty, staff and students are encouraged to stop by the Department of Nursing - primarily on the third floor of building 8 - to view the posters and acknowledge the important role nurses play at the College and in our community

The week ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale (1820-1910), founder of nursing as a modern profession.

The Florence Nightingale Pledge
I solemnly pledge myself before God and in the presence of this assembly, to pass my life in purity and to practice my profession faithfully. I will abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous, and will not take or knowingly administer any harmful drug. I will do all in my power to maintain and elevate the standard of my profession, an will hold in confidence all personal matters committed to my keeping and all family affairs coming to my knowledge in the practice of my calling. With loyalty will I endeavor to aid the physician in his work, and devote myself to the welfare of those committed to my care.
