Renaissance Square Project Moves Forward

Renaissance Square is a $230 million downtown project that combines an underground bus station, a performing arts center and a new home for our Damon City Campus.  It is the largest development project in the history of Rochester.

Valarie Avalone, Planning, and Bob Cunningham, Enrollment Management, were chosen to represent the College in the selection process for the prime and sub-consultants.  Approximately 270 proposals from local firms, as well as from firms as far away as New Jersey, Illinois, Massachusetts, Washington, North Carolina, California, Canada, Germany, and Denmark were reviewed.

Following three days of presentations and interviews to narrow the selection, Avalone and Cunningham were part of a 13-person contingent of local officials that traveled to see educational facilities and performing arts centers designed by the two companies that are finalists for the Design Architect role:  Boston-based Moshe Safdie & Associates and Seattle-based LMN Architects.

The DCC campus at Renaissance Square will provide 212,000 square feet of newly constructed and renovated space. The new campus will be configured with “smart” classrooms, well-designed labs, wireless learning areas, and student and administrative support services.

This spring, in preparation for the MCC portion of the project, various teams and “user” groups comprised of faculty and staff will be formed to provide program and space needs requirements.

Anticipated occupancy is projected for fall 2009.
