Apple Hires MCC Engineering Program Graduate

Sean Reid '14, an alumnus of MCC's Engineering Science & Physics program, was hired to join Apple Inc. in Silicon Valley as an optical sensors engineer in November 2016.  Before he left to join Apple Inc., in California, he visited MCC and left the following advice for freshmen and a brief biography.

"Advice to my freshman self: Always seek out new relationships, and focus on maintaining those which are most important to you. MCC will give you some of your best friends. Stay positive, be honest, and have empathy and respect for everyone."

"Biography: I’m an optical sensors engineer at Apple, based in sunny Cupertino. I love it here! Living and working in Silicon Valley is a dream come true, and I am so grateful to have this opportunity. My journey to Cupertino started at Monroe Community College (MCC). I had a chance to lead the MCC Engineering Leadership Council as its president, an experience which taught me how to listen and communicate. In between my classes, I worked at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE) on high speed cameras. The varied technical curriculum at MCC and my hands-on experience at the LLE inspired me to pursue a career in the field of optical engineering. I was able to transfer to a great optics school, the University of Rochester (UR), in 2014 using MCC’s 2+2 program. I received my BS in Optical Engineering from the UR in May 2016. In my free time, you can find me writing code to solve games, playing jazz trombone and piano, fishing for bass, camping, and reading."
