34th Annual English/Philosophy Writing Contest

Did you know that the English/Philosophy Department has been running a campus-wide writing contest for students for the last 33 years?

This year we would like to ask for your help in publicizing this contest. Specifically, we would like your help in announcing this contest in your classes, mentioning it to students, and if possible posting our contest flier in a location around your workspace that is visible to students.

Students can enter their writing in any of five categories. First prize in each category is $150 as well as recognition at a special ceremony held in the Flynn Campus Center May 11 and publication in a bound journal of the year’s winning entries.

The categories of work considered for this writing contest are as follows:

PERSONAL ESSAY (not to exceed 2000 words)

LITERARY ESSAY (an essay that analyzes or explicates one or more specific works of literature, not to exceed 2000 words)

SHORT FICTION (not to exceed 3000 words)

POEM (single poem, not to exceed 60 lines)

PHILOSOPHICAL ESSAY (not to exceed 2000 words)

Complete details about the contest can be found in the contest flier attached to this message.

Thank you for helping us promote and celebrate our student writing.
