Helen Elam MCC Scholarship

The MCC Civil Service Board is proud to announce the "Helen Elam MCC Scholarship."  This scholarship was previously called the MCC CSEA Scholarship. The MCC CSEA Union Board unanimously voted to rename the scholarship to honor a former Civil Service employee, Helen Elam.

Helen began her employment at MCC in 1974 as the department secretary to the Computer Services Department.  In 1980, she became the secretary to the assistant VP for Information Services and worked in that department until her retirement in 1995.

Helen's personable, outgoing, congenial attitude put her on a first-name basis with most of the faculty and staff at the college.  Helen was a proud member of CSEA, and, in her letter of gratitude for being awarded this honor, she says, "Today's workforce needs to be represented by people willing to uphold the interests of those hards workers. MCC's staff is ably represented now, in the past and hopefully in the future."

These scholarship funds are to assist MCC CSEA members in their educational endeavors. This year's first recipients of the "Helen Elam MCC Scholarship" were Carol Dayes, Brenda Muller and Eileen Scorgie.

Donations towards this scholarship may be sent to the MCC Foundation, in care of the Helen Elam MCC Scholarship.
