Want to Go Green? Go With Us!

The Chemistry/Geosciences Department would like to invite you to join them on their annual Professional Development Field Trip on Saturday, June 18th. Experience Rochester like never before and join us on a quest to discover our city’s “green” and sustainable future.

The trip will consist of several guided-tour stops in and around Rochester with bus transportation provided. Start the day with a journey beneath Building 7 to see the college’s power plant and get a personal tour of our college’s award winning LEEDs building. Next, visit a local energy company who installs emission-free geothermal systems powered by the heat of the earth! Take a trip back in time though Rochester’s historic district and rediscover Rochester’s abandoned subway system with special guest Mike Governale, the chair of Reconnect Rochester. Enjoy a picnic and walk along the lakeshore at Durand Eastman Park and hear about a controversial plan to harness wind energy far beyond the shores of Lake Ontario. Then take a walk on a suspended boardwalk into the heart of a protected wetland to get a lesson on sustainability from Mother Nature. Along the way we’ll stop for some fresh strawberries and learn about Rochester’s sustainable agriculture from Robert King, Senior Specialist of the Agriculture and Life Sciences Institute.  Don’t miss this incredible shared-learning experience about MCC’s and the City of Rochester’s sustainable future.

Open to all MCC faculty, students, and staff.  Please sign up with Judy Miller in room 8-210 or call 292-2425. Seats are limited to the first 30 participants and a $5.00 refundable deposit is requested.

When: Saturday, June 18th from 8:00 AM til ~4:00 PM
Where: City of Rochester and surrounding area
What to bring: bag lunch, refillable water bottle, light jacket (weather pending), camera for photos
