Fox News to Cover Law & Criminal Justice Course

The USA Patriot Act course will be featured on Fox News at 10 p.m. tonight, Friday, March 5.

The course examines the legal fortitude and civil impact of the USA Patriot Act, passed after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Likely the only course in the nation devoted soley to the act, it examines the impact of terrorism on traditional due process rights in concern for homeland security. The course has been launched alongside MCC’s new Homeland Security Management Institute, aimed at preparing business and industry, schools, public officials, citizens and first-responders for public safety crises.

Students are given the tools to explore the USA Patriot Act through online research and classroom lectures and discussion that present questions rather than answers. By the end of the semester, students should be able to articulate whether the law is worthy of renewal, is effective as a legal tool, or threatens civil liberties.

Teaching the course are Laurence Feasel, professor, retired U.S. Army colonel and New York State certified police master instructor; David Pogue, professor, former Monroe County Assistant District Attorney and former member of the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General Corps; and, William Clauss, adjunct professor, formerly with the U.S. Public Defender’s office, involved in defending the Lackawanna conspirators.
