Shine the Light on Domestic Violence: Go Purple on October 19th!

This year marks the 10th anniversary of New York State's Shine the Light on Domestic Violence campaign, coordinated annually by the Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence (OPDV). Beginning Monday, Oct. 16th, MCC is illuminating campus signs in purple light to prompt conversation, raise awareness, and show support for victims and survivors.

HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED

Wear purple on Thursday, Oct. 19th and proudly share your efforts through social media. Use these hashtags: #WearPurpleMCC #WearPurpleNY #NYGoesPurple4DV and #ShinetheLight

Send photos of you, your colleagues, friends and family, your workplace, community groups, your pets and others to opdvpurple@opdv.ny.gov and OPDV will share them at www.facebook.com/nysdomesticviolence and @NYSOPDV (Twitter and Instagram)

Attend a One Love Escalation Workshop
What: The Escalation Workshop is a powerful, film-based workshop that opens people's eyes to the warning signs of relationship abuse.
Where: PRISM Multicultural Center (1-108)
When: Thursday, October 19th at 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. (each workshop is 90 minutes)

Create a shirt to display as part of The Clothesline Project
What: Clothesline Projects all over the world remind people of the real meaning of violence statistics that are often ignored.
Where: Terrace A
When: Thursday, October 19th from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
