TCC: Tip of the Day - What our students are saying

The Teaching and Creativity Center surveyed students about their experience with learning through this pandemic. Our intention is to highlight what practices are particularly effective and share student suggestions. These insights are gifts that we don't often have the benefit of receiving.

We will start with a collection of their answers to "What is the best thing that faculty have done to support your learning since we moved to distance-learning?"

Keeping us updated with what their plans/coursework are for us and what we have to complete; regular emails.

Offer support, making changes to ensure we are set to graduate, providing time for questions

Schedule zoom meetings during the original class times.

Been super understanding. Emailing quickly. Always available when needed, very understanding.

Provide office hours

Frequently checking in to make sure we are doing well and understanding everything.

Some faculty have shared their personal notes that they've taken on the chapter that we're learning in class. That has been extremely helpful. The faculty have taken time to redo lectures if they weren't being recorded so that we can have access to the lecture Still. Faculty have made themselves available for virtual office hours during the week and sometimes on weekend days for questions/concerns. Posting guides, lecture videos, and actively responding to emails.

They have been very kind and encouraging. weekly check in video chats. Encouraging classmates to reach out to each other and check in to add additional contact.Move due-dates, find alternative assignments, and give notice about a scheduled zoom meeting. Push back some due dates. Responding to emails and offering tutoring hours in addition to office hours. Putting a lot of resources and tutorials on blackboard. Generally being kind and understanding.Extended coursework, test taking times, and a lot of hard work to understand our needs and much patience!

always asking how we are doing

Some of my professors understand with me having children doing work and myself
