Faculty Association Members Meet with Legislators

A Message from Ellen Mancuso, Faculty Association Legislative Chair:

On Saturday, March 22 MCC FA Faculty members, Louis Silvers, Mark Sample, Paul Wheeler and myself attended the Monroe County Federation of Teachers Legislative Breakfast to discuss education funding just days before the state budget was passed. On Wednesday, February 26, Paul Wheeler, Louis Silvers, and Jan Volland traveled with me to Albany to meet with legislators to talk about our students, our community and the impact community colleges have on people's lives.  Being committed to educational access, I am always optimistic that our efforts will make a difference. While we did receive an increase in base aid to $2,497, in reality that number is just $28 less than what we received in 2006-07. The positive side is that the number is heading in the right direction.  In this political climate, lobbying is beneficial as our legislators have many decisions to make and they do a better job when they hear from us. As we finish out this legislative session, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
