Mathlix N Chill is Back!

Once again, this Saturday, April 30th from 2 pm to 5 pm in 9 -134, I will be hosting the second "Mathlix N Chill" event this time joined by Prof Eric Berg! The first session was a massive success! The room was packed with so much collaboration and laughter. Students were empowered to form study groups with students from other sections, and there were students from 094, 096, 098, 104, 160, 165, and even 210 represented! Many thanks to Prof Witt for joining the session and to your students who were able to attend and make this such a fun experience.

As a reminder, these events are intended to have students from across MCC get together and meet people taking the same math classes. They will have the opportunity to collaborate and to learn from each other while I am there in case there are any questions. The event is held in an ALE classroom so that students from their respective courses can sit at the same table so they can work together. My goal is to empower our students and help them to recognize what they are capable of when they pool their resources.

As an incentive to my students, anyone who attends and participates will earn either a Late Pass or a Bonus Test Point. They will let me know which they would like when they leave the session. They are expected to stay at least an hour. I would be willing to record your students' names as well and report back if you would be willing to incentivize them.

Lastly, I encouraged my strong students to join so that they can help their fellow classmates. The more invested you are, the higher your persistence. This opportunity will encourage sense of belonging, students feeling valued and seen, not to mention building agency! And hopefully this experience will bring some more fun and light to math. (I will bring mini donuts again!)

I am hoping to continue this into May, so stay tuned. Updated info about this event will be in the Tribune so stay on the lookout for it! These events will continue to be in-person unless there is a demand for a remote session. Please share the Tribune announcement with your students, and let's help them to better themselves while working together. And if you happen to want to join in on the fun with me, let's do it! You can hold a session remote or in-person, and I would be honored to partner with you.

We are in this together. We are a community. Let's get after it.

Saludos,

Dr. Rachel Santiago
