MCC Student to Receive 2005 Overcoming Challenges Award

The Women Chemists Committee of the American Chemical Society (ACS) has selected Monroe Community College student Susan Spencer as the 2005 Overcoming Challenges Award recipient. The award consists of a plaque, a monetary award and travel expenses to the fall ACS National Meeting in Washington, D.C. in late August. In addition to ACS members, representatives of leading pharmaceutical companies will be among the guests at the national meeting.

Assistant Professor of Chemistry Lydia Tien nominated Spencer for the award. Spencer is also a past Thompson Family Scholarship recipient. After earning her A.A.S. degree in Spring 2006, Spencer plans to transfer to the Rochester Institute of Technology to continue her studies in biotechnology.
