MCC Breaks Ground for the Wolk Center

On July 26, MCC representatives, community leaders and philanthropists broke ground on the Louis S. and Molly B. Wolk Center for Excellence in Nursing. The $8 million project will expand and improve learning resources for Greater Rochester’s future nurses.

Built on MCC’s Brighton Campus, the 20,000 sq. ft. educational complex will replace classrooms, labs and faculty offices that were built in the 1960s. The project is being funded in part by a $2 million philanthropic gift from Louis S. and Molly B. Wolk Foundation to the Monroe Community College Foundation. The remainder of the funding is coming from Monroe County and the State of New York.

“The Wolk Center for Excellence in Nursing will enhance significantly the impact MCC has on health care in this community,” said R. Thomas Flynn, MCC President. “MCC is known for one of the best nursing education programs in the nation. We will now have one of the finest nursing education facilities.

“I am particularly inspired by the public-private partnership that is making this important community resource possible,” Flynn added. “My thanks go to the New York State Legislature, Monroe County and the Wolk Foundation for investing in the health of our community, via Monroe Community College.

The Wolk Center is scheduled to open during the fall 2008 semester.
