“Why Don’t Students Like School?”

How do you get students to think like the people in your discipline? And how do you help students retain the crucial skills and subject matter in your courses? Those are the fundamental questions that will be discussed at noon Wednesday, Feb. 16, and at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the Teaching & Creativity Center, room 315 of the LeRoy V. Good Library on the Brighton campus.

Susan Thompson of the Psychology Department will facilitate a conversation on the issues raised in chapters 4 and 5 of Daniel Willingham’s book Why Don’t Students Like School? A Cognitive Scientist Answers Questions about How the Mind Works and What It Means for the Classroom.
