The Leroy V. Good Library (Brighton campus) is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a lecture Wednesday, February 24, from 12:00 -1:00 P.M. Preston Pierce, Regional Archivist, will be speaking on “Liberian Dreams, West African Nightmare: The Life of Henry Johnson.” Henry Johnson was a noted 19th century orator and the first African-American attorney in the 7th Judicial District, which includes the Rochester area. He was a close contemporary of Frederick Douglass.
The lecture will be located on the 4th floor of the library, outside of room 2-452. Please join us for this very exciting event detailing an important period in Rochester history.
Preston Pierce holds Masters degrees in History (University of Vermont) and Library Science (SUNY Geneseo), a graduate certificate in Archival Studies (East Tennessee State University), and a Doctorate in Education from the University of Rochester. He has 38 years of teaching experience and now teaches at Finger Lakes Community College in the Social Sciences Department. Mr. Pierce also serves as the Documentary Heritage Program Regional Archivist for this area.
