Sibley Building Safety

Some students at the Damon City Campus recently reported receiving unwanted attention from some of the visitors on the first floor of the Sibley Building. The inappropriate behavior involved verbal harassments and drug solicitations.

MCC does not condone such behavior and takes any threats to personal safety seriously.  If you have witnessed this behavior or have had it directed at you, please report it immediately. Eyewitness input is critical to our investigation.

In response to the incidents, security within the Sibley Building has been increased. A full-time Wilmorite security guard is assigned to patrol the first floor of the building from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The guard is authorized to escort and/or ban individuals from the building. Wilmorite also provides escort service.

From 6 to 9 p.m., the Red Shirts downtown safety patrol is available to escort people to their vehicles. Red Shirts is composed of retired or off-duty law enforcement officers, mostly from the Rochester Police Department, who walk and/or ride bicycles in the downtown area and call in any incidents. Their phone number is 732-8808.

Both the Red Shirts and RPD regularly patrol the first and second floors of the Sibley Building.

In addition, members of PACTAC (Police And Citizens Together Against Crime) and DCC Watch make their rounds in and outside the building and report any suspicious activity.

The safety of our college community is our No. 1 priority. As we make every effort to maintain our college as a safe place to learn and work, we also ask you to be especially vigilant to ensure your personal safety.  As always, we encourage you to be aware of your surroundings, avoid dark areas, walk in pairs or groups, and request escort service whenever you feel unsafe.
