Important New Process Information you Need to Know

As of January 5, 2017, students placed on Academic Warning, Probation, or Restriction for spring 2017 semester will be notified via MCC email by the Registration and Records Office.

While we transition the college community to the new Academic Standing process, students who are placed on Warning, Probation, and Restriction will be still be able to independently register for spring 2017 courses.  The Financial Aid Office is continuing to review financial aid appeals for fall 2016.

After the spring 2017 term, students who are not making satisfactory academic progress will be required to meet with an advisor and establish an academic plan. Starting in June 2017, the Academic Deans for each School will be leading the appeals committee and decisions. A financial aid professional will be involved in the appeals committee process for each School.

In June 2016, Faculty Senate approved changes to Resolution 1.1.7 Academic Standing. As of the 2016-2017 academic year, students will be evaluated for academic standing at the end of the fall, spring, and summer terms.

The new academic standing criteria stipulates that:

-        Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0, including remedial and repeated courses

-        Students’ credit completion must equal 67% of attempted credits in the current term. (This means that students need to successfully pass with a D- or better at least 2/3 of their courses in the evaluated term.)

-        Students must complete their educational program in no longer than 150% of the published length of the educational program (An example of going over 150% would be attempting 90 credits for a 60 credit program.)

The College calculates academic standing at the end of fall, spring, and summer terms based upon the student’s progress towards degree completion:

-        Completed credits include grades of A, B, C, and D (+/-)

-        Attempted credits include, but are not limited to, developmental credits, ESOL credits, and all credit-bearing courses

-        All courses, including repeats and grades of F, count as attempted (except drops)

-        Incomplete Grades (I) and Withdrawals (W, WI) will count as attempted hours, but will not count as successful completions

-        Repeated courses count as earned only once

-        Grades of W count towards percent attempted

In collaboration with Student Services, Academic Services will be reaching out to students during the spring semester to support their academic success.

If students have questions about their financial aid status or appeals, they should contact the Financial Aid Office.

If students have questions about their academic standing for spring 2017, they should contact the Advising Center.
