Child Care Center Awarded State and National Grants

The Monroe Community College Child Care Center was awarded two grants totaling
over $120,600 by the U.S. Department of Education and New York State in
September 2002.

The national and state grants, amounting to $77,052 and $43,600, respectively,
will support MCC Child Care Center operations and child care
scholarship/subsidies for parents through August 2003.

"These funds are critical to the success of our program," commented Audrey
Abbondanzierri, director of the center. "Without this support, many students
would have to choose between quality child care and their education."

The MCC Child Care Center, located on the Brighton Campus, was established in
1991 to support students with young children. The center is licensed by the New
York State Department of Social Services and is operated through the Monroe
Community College Association, Inc. Over the past decade the center has
expanded its services to meet the child care needs of MCC faculty, staff and
the Greater Rochester community.

Current programs offered by the center are designed specifically for infants,
toddlers, preschoolers and kindergarten-age children. The center also offers a
popular Summer College for Kids for school-age children during July and August
each year.
