SUNY Chancellor Honors MCC Students with Awards of Excellence

State University of New York Chancellor Robert L. King has recognized the University's most outstanding students, including six from Monroe Community College, with the Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence.

"These students are among the State University's best and brightest," said King. "Their commitment not only to academic excellence, but also to serving the wider community indicates they are likely to emerge as New York's future leaders. I am enormously proud of these students and very pleased to be able to recognize their accomplishments."

The honored MCC students are Crystal Ezman, Spencerport; Anna Marshall, Rochester; Rachel McGinnis, Rochester; Ann Schwartz, Webster; Phil Valenti, Pittsford; and Nicole Williams, Rochester.

"These students sought opportunities for academic and co-curricular leadership and made the most of them," said MCC President R. Thomas Flynn. "They are the future of Greater Rochester and Monroe County."

Chancellor's Award nominees are screened through a rigorous selection process. First, a campus selection committee reviews outstanding graduating students. The surviving nominations are then forwarded to the SUNY Office of University Life in Albany for a second round of review. Finalists are then recommended to the Chancellor.

In addition to grade point average, candidates for the Chancellor's Award must demonstrate significant contributions to the greater campus community.

The awards were presented at a ceremony at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany today. Each student received a framed certificate and a medallion that may be worn at commencement.
