There Goes the Neighborhood!: The Rochester Riots of 1964- When Second-Class Residents Rebelled


The LeRoy V. Good Library (Brighton campus) is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a lecture Wednesday, March 4, 12:00 pm to 12:50 pm. Verdis Robinson will be speaking on “There Goes the Neighborhood!”: The Rochester Riots of 1964- When Second-Class Residents Rebelled. The lecture will be located on the 4th floor of the library, outside of room 2-440.

Verdis LeVar Robinson is an Assistant Professor of History and African-American Studies at Monroe Community College teaching writing-intensive, web-enhanced, service-learning history courses in the Diversity and Community Studies degree program.  In addition to serving as MCC’s TDC Campus Coordinator, he is a co-advisor for the Black Student Union at the Damon City Campus.  Verdis also serves on the editorial board of Rochester’s History and on the TDC National Steering Committee.  He is also the founder of the Rochester Neighborhood Oral History Project (RNOHP) which seeks to understand the agents of change that have transformed the city of Rochester from 1940s to present by interviewing previous and current inner-city residents collecting their recollections and stories.  Verdis holds a B.M. in voice performance from Boston University, a B.S. and an M.A. in History from SUNY College at Brockport, and an M.A. in African-American Studies from SUNY University at Buffalo.
