Supporting the United Way

Our community’s United Way campaign is underway and I invite you to participate via MCC’s United Way effort. Please join me in supporting the campaign, under the leadership of co-chairs Millie Lewis and Char Downing, and with their extensive team of volunteers.

This year’s campaign theme – The Way to Help – is a great way to show how the MCC family joins with others to help with the many challenges facing our community. Our mission of education, access and student success is how the MCC community helps the Greater Rochester community. We change lives through education. Our students find many ways to help, through service projects undertaken by clubs, organizations and service-learning courses. As individuals, our faculty and staff have found hundreds of ways to help – as evident in the community service activities in which you are involved. The United Way is just one more way that MCC people impact our communities, making a difference for our neighbors, our friends, our co-workers and our families.

The United Way of Greater Rochester has set this year’s goal at $35.5 million, the same as last year. In so doing, Dennis Mullen, 2006 campaign chairman and president of Greater Rochester Enterprise, said, “With our stagnant economy, it made sense to keep the goal the same and to seek a broader donor base.”  MCC also recognizes the pressures of rising fuel prices, a lackluster economy and the many demands for your financial support, so we too are adopting the same goal as last year, $100,000. Through your generosity, we reached our goal last year and led the Rochester Area Colleges in employee participation. Your gift to the United Way this year will help MCC and the United Way of Greater Rochester reach our goals and impact thousands of lives.

Finally, let me express my sincere appreciation to Millie Lewis, Char Downing, the volunteer campaign solicitors and the entire behind-the-scenes volunteers on our United Way campaign. You take on this important project because you believe strongly in it. I also recognize that you accept these responsibilities on top of your regular MCC duties. Your commitment and enthusiasm for the United Way inspires so many of us. Thank you for your commitment to the United Way and MCC.
