Five Corporate Leaders Join MCC Foundation Board


Five local corporate leaders have joined the Monroe Community College Foundation Board of Directors. Foundation directors champion MCC’s role in the community and make a difference in the lives of MCC students through their support of scholarships, faculty enrichment programs and educational innovation at the college.

Essie Calhoun-McDavid (Pittsford), chief diversity and community affairs officer (retired), Eastman Kodak Company, began her Kodak career in 1982 and held positions in marketing, sales and public affairs. As director of community affairs and president of the Eastman Kodak Charitable Trust, Calhoun-McDavid oversaw Kodak’s corporate philanthropy and community involvement worldwide for two decades. As chief diversity officer (2003-2010), she was the primary driver of Kodak’s global diversity and inclusion strategies.

Hiram Hernandez, Sr. (Greece) is president and chairman of First Capital Payments, a member service provider for the MasterCard and Visa associations that helps merchants build better businesses throughout upstate New York. Hernandez also contributes his time and leadership to the Rochester Hispanic Business Association, the Political Action Committee for the Rochester Business Alliance and the Rochester Regional Veterans Business Council. He was the Hispanic Business Person of the Year in 2008.

Joseph Klein (Brighton) is the chairman of Klein Steel Service, Inc., a world-class metal service manufacturer that consistently ranks among Rochester’s Top 100 Growth Firms. Klein Steel was also named IndustryWeek magazine’s Best Plants of North America award winner in 2012. Klein is the founding board member of the three Rochester Prep charter schools managed by Uncommon Schools and was the chairman of Rochester’s Literacy Commission.

Naomi Silver (Penfield) is the president, CEO and COO of Rochester Community Baseball, Inc. She serves on a variety of boards, including the Boys & Girls Club of Rochester, Jewish Community Federation, Rochester Rotary, the United Way of Greater Rochester and the International League of Professional Baseball Clubs. In 2008 she became the first woman to receive the Minor Executive of the Year Award by Baseball America.

Gary Squires ’76 (Churchville) is president of Manning Squires Hennig Co., Inc., consistently ranked among Rochester’s Top 100 companies. He serves on the board of directors of the Builders Exchange of Rochester, the Construction Industry Association of Rochester and serves as chairman of UNICON. Squires was inducted into the MCC Alumni Hall of Fame in 2010.
