Pre-Collegiate Shadow Day

On November 6th, the pre-collegiate programs (Upward Bound and Liberty Partnerships Program) at Damon City Campus hosted their 4th annual Shadow Day. Initially created to provide opportunities for high school students to get a glimpse of college life, this day was undoubtedly another success. The students were divided into two groups, 12th graders and 9th-11th graders, and both cohorts enjoyed their day attending classes, workshops, and tours at DCC.

The professors and DCC students generously opened their classrooms to give the shadowing students the opportunity to immerse themselves in this intellectual community. The shadowing students selected from an eclectic selection of classes—Criminal Justice, Education, Mathematics, Psychology, English—according to their career interests. The shadowing students, amongst the DCC students, did not shy away from sharing their perceptions on certain issues or inquiring about methodologies in classes.  While the graduating seniors busied themselves with classes, the other students attended a workshop led by Mr. Lomax Campbell, the Assistant to the Vice President of Economic Development and Innovative Workforce Services at MCC. The workshop pertained to the theme of “The Importance of Being Ready for College,” in which the speaker encouraged students to aspire for greater success beyond high school.

The day ended successfully. The pre-collegiate programs would like to offer sincere appreciation and gratitude to the DCC faculty, staff: The day would not have been possible without your efforts and generosity.
