MCC Daily Tribune

Officers-in-Charge Begin Mid-December, Process to Select Interim President

The following letter was submitted to the MCC Daily Tribune on behalf of MCC Board of Trustees Chairperson Dr. Barbara P. Lovenheim and Trustee Allen K. Williams.

Dear MCC Community,

As you know, President Anne Kress is leaving for a new job, and the MCC Board of Trustees is tasked with hiring a new president. We consider this as a collaborative opportunity for us to find a leader who best exemplifies MCC's mission.

As Board Chair, I have asked Trustee Allen Williams to co-chair the process with me. I have also asked Kristin Lowe (Human Resources) to act as our search liaison and Clayton Jones (Government and Community Relations) to oversee communications. Presidential Search web pages will be available shortly to help keep the MCC community abreast of the latest information; timeline of key milestones, meetings and events; and progress during the search.

Dr. Kress will be taking vacation time beginning December 17. From December 17-26, 2019, Provost and Vice President Dr. Andrea Wade (Academic Services) will be the officer-in-charge. From December 27, 2019-February 3, 2020, Chief Financial Officer and Vice President Hezekiah Simmons (Administrative Services) will be the officer-in-charge. Vice Presidents Wade and Simmons will provide ongoing administrative leadership of MCC during the Presidential Search. We plan to appoint the interim president to allow for a February 3, 2020 start date.

After consultation with SUNY representatives, MCC is working with The Registry, to identify interim president candidates. The Registry has past experience with SUNY four- and two-year colleges.

We expect interim president candidates to:

  • Support the College's internal programs.
  • Maintain MCC's presence and involvement in the community.
  • Help MCC define its unique position within public higher education and what we want in our future president.

Since we have had dissension at the College, now is a good time for stakeholders to discuss together our priorities for the next decade at MCC and our future leader.

The following process will be used to select and appoint an interim president:

  1. The Registry provides a list of potential candidates and their curriculum vitae to the MCC Board of Trustees.
  2. Following careful review, the Board will select three candidates.
  3. Selected candidates will visit MCC for two days of interviews (group and individual discussions) with faculty, staff, and students. We hope to have the three candidates visit MCC during the first week of December.
  4. Faculty, staff and students will be invited to share their feedback via a response form.
  5. Based on feedback received and on-campus interviews, the Board will make a decision on MCC's interim president, subject to approval by the SUNY Board of Trustees and SUNY Chancellor Kristina M. Johnson.
  6. The interim president will start on February 3, 2020.

We anticipate the interim president will serve for approximately one year while the College conducts a nationwide search for a permanent president.

We look forward to working together with you to shape the future of Monroe Community College.

Sincerely,
Barbara P. Lovenheim, Ph.D.
